Therapy for Men Who Feel Disconnected
A lot of the guys I work with are doing “fine” on the outside. They’re capable, thoughtful, and showing up for work and life. But internally, something feels off. Anxious. Flat. Disconnected. Or just hard to put into words.
I became a therapist because I’ve seen how easy it is, especially as a man, to lose touch with your inner world without realizing it’s happening.
Before becoming a therapist, my path wasn’t exactly a straight line. After graduating from the University of Virginia, I moved out west to California, where I worked trail maintenance, supported nonprofit organizations, and spent a lot of time hiking, camping, and being outside. Life slowed down in a good way. Less thinking. More noticing. More listening. That time had a lasting impact on how I understand people and how I approach therapy today.
Those years taught me something simple but important: real change usually doesn’t come from overanalyzing yourself. It comes from learning how to pay attention to what’s happening inside with curiosity and honesty.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is collaborative, grounded, and practical. I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parts work, and compassion-focused therapy. In plain terms, that means we focus less on getting rid of thoughts or emotions and more on changing how you relate to them.
Rather than trying to “fix” uncomfortable feelings, we work on building awareness, emotional connection, and flexibility. Sessions often include mindfulness, body-based awareness, and noticing patterns without judgment. The goal isn’t to turn you into a different person or fix you, it’s to help you feel more at home in your own mind and body so life feels more workable.
Clients often describe my style as calm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. I care about depth and authenticity, and I try to create a space where therapy feels human, not clinical or scripted.
Who I Work Best With
I tend to work especially well with:
- Young adults navigating anxiety, low mood, or identity questions
- Professionals struggling with stress, burnout, and the demands of life
- Men who feel disconnected from their emotions or bodies
- People who live mostly in their heads and want to feel more grounded
- Clients who value honesty, introspection, and collaborative change
If you’re looking for therapy that’s reflective, experiential, and focused on real-life change, rather than just talking in circles, we’ll likely be a good fit.
The Clinical Part
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a master’s degree in Couples and Family Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional disconnection, and related concerns. I take this work seriously and try to meet people with curiosity and respect.
Outside the Therapy Room
Outside of sessions, I’m usually happiest outdoors hiking, camping, or bird watching whenever I can. I’m a lifelong sports fan and follow Liverpool, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and UVA athletics. Music matters to me too, especially folk music that reminds me of growing up in the Shenandoah Valley.
I’m always reading about psychology and human behavior because I’m genuinely curious about what actually helps people change.
